Nervous On My Horse
I dont really know were to post this, but a few weeks ago I was in a bad accident with my horse, but it wasn't her fault. Anyways, whenever I ride her I get really tense and nervous, I cant sit deep in my seat and I can feel my heart beating faster. I cant help it, and it makes her very nervous too, she sidesteps and she also gets tense. I dont get nervous with any of my other horses. It feels like every time I ride her she is going to do the same thing. I really want to stay calm on her, and boost my confidence.
What can I do to boost my confidence and and calm both of us?
Would you feel more confident if your trainer/instructor/other trusted person we on the ground attached to a long line? That helps me a great deal. If I get nervous, knowing that someone has me covered with the horse allows me to focus on getting myself under control.

Whenever I get nervous, I always like to spend ground time with my horse before I ride. Brush them, lead them, really spend a lot of time with them. Bond with them. A lot of times if you guys get a stronger bond, and spend more time, you will realize that she's not going to hurt you. Remember, these things happen to everyone. You're not alone!
Also, just go slow if you are nervous. Walk walk walk whoa. If that is all you get done that day, then good for you. You need to develop more good experiences on her to help overcome that bad.
It is just like horses. Have you ever noticed that one bad experience will have a HUGE effect, while it takes a bunch of good experiences to have a huge effect.

I had a bad fall years ago and quit riding. I'm now back in the saddle on an amazing patient OTTB. In fact, I rode this morning... walk, circles, figure eight, whoa, walk, walk, trot a few strides, whoa, walk, circle, etc.
He was not the one that threw me years ago, but the fear is still there. But every ride on my sweet boy builds my confidence. It also develops a strong bond between us. If I can get out of my own way, I'm still a decent rider.
Talk. Talk to yourself, talk to your horse. If you are talking, you are bhttp://www.horseforum.com/media/grap...isc/carrot.pngreathing. If you ahttp://www.horseforum.com/media/grap...isc/carrot.pngrhttp://www.horseforum.com/media/grap...isc/carrot.pnge breathing, it's easier to relax. Ask me how I know....
Do you have someone that can lunge the horse while you are riding? Someone you trust?
That way you should feel safer as there are two people in control of the horse.
When you are first seated take a deep breath thro your nose like you are trying to suck in China, hold it for 10 seconds, then slowly exhale thro your mouth with pursed lips. This will have a calming effect on both of you. If you need to, repeat three or four times. Then proceed only at the walk. You can fine tune many things at the walk.
