New to all this.
Ok everyone here is my deal. I used to ride/show horses for a friend of mine back when I was a little girl and used to work my mothers friends horse to get it back down to weight. I have not owned my own horse though. This is mostly very new to me. I do not know what pulling(mane) means? I know alot about grooming but I want to make sure Casper has the best owner ever. So I want to learn everything I can and work with him to get his weight down and be rideable for my family. Any help would be amazing. We all have to start somewhere right?
Pulling manes is when someone goes along the mane pulling out the long hairs, making the mane thinner, shorter and more manageable. If you google it, you will find lots of tutorials teaching how to do it.
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Hello and welcome to the forum.
Pulling manes is something that is done for the show ring or because someone just thinks they want to because it makes their horse look better. It has nothing to do with quality of care:-)
Daily grooming to keep the skin stimulated, watching for bug bites, cuts, fungal/bacterial issues picking hooves and proper feed for the job the horse has (or doesnt have) are some of the things that go into quality care:D
Please ask questions - there a lot of informative and helpful people on this forum:-)
What will you be doing with Casper?

Welcome to the forum this is the right place to start also look at what other people do with they horse it is a good way to learn what works and what dose not and have fun
We have him for pleasure and trail rides. Hes really good with kids so after some work I'm hoping to get my daughter on him, just around the arena though. We know hes good with wepons fireing so my husband is hoping to go hunting with him in the future. For the most part though hes just a pleasure horse. I just want to make sure I do right by him and give him a happy family.
Then you could just make sure you keep his mane tangle free. If it interferes with rein cues, you might want to pull it, but you could also braid it. There are several really neat braids to choose from.
