I have seen good reining trainers (world pros) slide without skid boots.....do you always need to use skid boots? Or does it depend on the footing?

I have been reining for almost 20 years and when I first started things where different but now I doubt you will see any horse with out skid boots at any level. I know I would not risk my horse with out them.

Nhreiner, I mean when training at home where the footing is 'known' and when the horse isn't being pushed as hard as it would be at a show, just curious:)

If I am stopping the horse has skids on. The time it takes to put them on is small compaired to what may happen without them. Safe over sorry.

Good 'sound' advice.....no pun intended:)
