What Happened to Hickstead?

I was searching around on youtube and this video came up..

and then this one

I read some of the comments.. and they say that it was a heart attack? and then some say it was a siezure..

I don't ride english.. I dont jump.. but I was wondering.. what really happened? why did this happen?

From what I see.. this horse was a legend..

Sad to see this happen:/

He had an aortic rupture.

There were many threads on here if you want to search them.
He was most definitely a legend. His unfortunate passing took the equine world by surprise. He was one of the most powerful jumpers the world has seen in recent times.
I'm not sure what the official autopsy results showed, I believe it was a massive heart attack.
He is sorely missed. I still get sad when I go to Spruce Meadows and Eric isn't riding Hickstead. I can't wait to see if his foals will follow in his hoof steps. They certainly look impressive!

November will be the one year anniversary. I follow Eric and Spruce Meadows on Facebook and the pictures of the tribute statue are amazing.

I would just say a heart attack.

AlexS 09-20-2012 02:38 PM

The necropsy listed the cause of death as an acute aortic rupture causing heart failure.

The press conference with Eric Lamaze a few days after Hickstead passed.

So true. I loved watching Hickstead. He was just jaw dropping and powerful to watch in person.

Someone mentioned his foals. Sadly from what I have been hearing his foals are not really showing the same talent as Daddy. I am hoping they are late developers as I would really like to see his talent carried on.

Aren't all the foals too young to be showing anything yet NBE?
I thought that the oldest was only a 2010 baby.
