posting in a show I'm going to be in my 1st western pleasure show.Is it ok to post in a show because I'm new to western riding and i can't trot without posting. |
No, it is not. You'll need to master sitting the jog before you can show. |
I believe you are supposed to sit the trot unless you are doing a stock/ranch horse pleasure that calls for the extended trot, then you may post. |
You are supposed to sit the extended jog as well. You should come forward, but still sit. You do not ever post in a western show class. I always get a lot of plus points for my jogs at shows, so I'm confident in my information. Also I have never seen anyone post in the AQHA/APHA shows, open shows, or at the HS Team. |
The APHA uses ASHA rules for its stock horse classes (stock horse pleasure) where it is allowed to post or stand in the stirrups. Also believe SHOT allows it as well. Just depends on the association and class. |
Dang it |

In ASHA, SHOT, and AQHA Ranch Horse Versatility, the riders post the extended jog. In the breed show western pleasure and horsemanship, you always sit. |
Huh. Well you learn something new everyday. |
I have been told that not matter what trot you're doing, you need to sit the trot. You for sure need to sit the trot in shows, otherwise they can dock points. I am bad at sitting the trot, so I always emphasize it and it becomes embarrassingly obvious that I'm trying to sit the trot. :P |
