Riding inflicted pain that hurts so good.
On Saturday, when I showed up at my barn to move Sky and Red from their pasture for irrigation, a really nice guy that lives down the road and always uses the barns arena to work his horses asked me if I would finish exercising one of his horses. He always brings both of his horses, works one and then works the other, but that day he wasn't feeling well and just wanted to be done with it, so he asked if I could finish lopeing him the last five laps so he could start on his other horse. Of course I said yes. It's been so long since I've REALLY ridden a horse. Sky has been so testy the last few times I've tried, always wanting to keep both eyes on her baby, refusing to move, let alone lope.
He uses his horses for barrel racing and they're really well trained, I hardly had to keep his guy going at all. He knew what he was supposed to be doing and wasn't allowed to stop until I asked, but boy am I feeling it today.
There was no warm up time for me, the horse had already been warmed up, so it was hop on and straight off into a lope. My body felt so awkward, I was instantly aware that my form was way off. I had to really concentrate on sitting up straight, keeping my heels down and my toes from going pigeon toed, and keeping my seat in the saddle, plus my stirrups were a tad too long. All that tension wreaked havoc on my body the next day, and today. But I like it. Reminds me of what I've been missing for months now. Nevermind that I can't pick up my kids lol, I am so pumped to get out there and start working with Sky more.
There's really no point to this thread, just one of those good feelings you feel like sharing.
Ain't it crazy? I've been riding a lot the past week, and my thighs have not quit hurting, but it's worth it!:)

I love that feeling it makes me feel accomplished. I went from working my one horse to now working my barrel horse, my 3 yr old greenie, and my BO's paint every day. Let me tell you they all give me a different type of workout.
-With TC it's my legs and my core he's the laziest horse ever and we're doing collection work right now so I've got to keep him up, I let off pressure for a split second and he's like "DONE!"
-With Dice it's pretty much everything. I'm working on perfectly balancing myself to help show him how to keep himself balanced at a lope.
-And The paint dear lord he gives me a workout. My core mostly he's such a nutter and hard to calm down and has a god awful trot and a very very forward kinda choppy canter(no nice sweeping movements here). He works every single muscle in my body I swear.
At the end of the day I'm usually so tired I don't want to drive home and my muscles are screaming at me but I love it. =)
Same here even I have been riding too long from the past two days and my legs as well as thigh have started paining. I am dying out of serious pain and I am really frustrate about it.
My pain has finally subsided, I can once again carry my sleeping, dead weighted, children to their beds. I was so pumped to get out their yesterday, but had no one to watch my kids before it got dark, which I totally didn't see coming since not only am I married but my 19 year old sister lives with us, SOMEONE should have been there. Uggh, I'm just a little frustrated because I knew I wasn't going to be able to go today iether. Anyway, so excited to be in pain again, and I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Phantomcolt, that sounds like a lot of work, that's good that you enjoy it.
My problem wasn't the horse at all, he was amazing, it was all me. I was so off.
I am going to be feeling it tomorrow. I swear I will. I felt it today before the endorphins kicked in.
Totally worth it though.
:happydance:<- What I am doing in my head because I shortly will be incapable of doing so physically.
Whisper, may be you have to ride this guy's horse more often. Lol!
I have sore muscles for while when I start bringing my horses back to shape after the winter. Can't say it's a "pleasant" pain, but...
I love to joke with my best friend that I can never tell if I was riding well until the next morning. LOL When I have done a really good ride, the muscles down either side of my spine, my lower abs and the top of my inner thigh are all stiff and sore when I wake up the next day. And if I did especially well on my sitting trot and/or canter, I am hobbling by the end of that day!
The twisted part is I love it!
The longest I've gone without riding since I was 13 was six months... boy it was hard haha. But finally I went riding, just an easy horse on an easy trail, and my thighs were singing the next day. It was so nice. :D
I currently have tack-carrying pain that feels so bad :( I had to catch the train down to see Brock (walk to bus stop, bus, walk to station, train, change platforms, another train - it's a bit of a journey!) so I had to lug about 6kgs of gear packed tight in a "green bag" in one hand, and my 7kg saddle in the other, plus the bridle looped on my shoulder. Super awkward and my whole body is aching.
The good news is, the rest of me hurts so much my backside feels fine! :-P
