Horse Costume- Leg Feathering?
I'm trying to come up with a costume for one of my horses for a costume class coming up next month and I got the idea to make feathers for his legs (like a gypsy, clyde, etc)
Has anyone ever made fake "leg extensions" I guess you could call them haha. I was looking at the faux fur fabric but that would look really fake I'm trying to go for the realistic look.
I had the weird idea of maybe getting a few cheapy wigs and cutting/sewing them up onto sports boots but I don't know how nice that would look.
Any ideas? Anything would help tremendously.
Polo wraps would make an easy attachment point. Polo wraps and Velcro. You can get all sorts of fuzzy cloth from places like Hobby Lobby.

You could buy a long haired sheepskin rug, the leather or stiff synthetic material backing would stand up great. Cut it in a diagonal so it flares back.
Sew string/yarn to the outside of a pair of tube socks (with the toe cut out) that match the color you want the feathers to be. Make sure you don't sew around the tube, or it will not stretch. Then pull it over the horse's foot. You might want polos under it so that you can safety pin the socks to keep them up.
Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll probably end up going with a combo of the yarn and fuzzy fur. I've got a month so I'm sure I'll have some time to come up with and perfect something. =)
