Does it need to be refleeced?

I'm considering buying a saddle and the seller said it likely needs to be refleeced. I really don't want to go through the hassle because I don't know of anyone in my area that does it, and it would be really expensive to send it away to have it done.

What do you guys think? Does it need to be refleeced? Or will it be okay with a good quality thick wool or Pro Choice pad?

Any thoughts?

I have thoughts. No, it doesn't need refleecing. The fleece provides a modicum of cushioning but it's main purpose is to keep the pad from scooting out from under the saddle as the horse moves. What is missing is close to the air channel. Refleecing is about $250+. If she thinks it needs refleecing, I've just given you a cost so throw that into your bargaining. Don't tell her it's ok. You can buy me a coffee if we ever meet. Lol. Let us know how it turns out.

I agree with Saddlebag from what I can see.

I wouldn't suggest refleecing. It doesn't look like it would cause a problem on the horse's back - just make sure you have a good pad (which you'd want anyway) and I think it's worth the risk.

Though you might be able to use the poor condition to your favor in price bargaining.
