riding patterns?
Hi all!
So I have a 14.3hh paint mare (Cali) that hasn't been ridden very often (been focusing too much on my gelding) Today I had hours before my class started so i went out and caught her. Went through some groundwork and she was perfect, saddled her up. Took a while to mount up (had to reteach her to STAND while mounting) When I got on she was a little frantic, just wanted to run everywhere or anywhere (I chalked it up to not being ridden often because I had her tack checked and her checked by pros) So I walked her around until she was calm, just circles, zig-zags, figure eights, walking over tarps, a bridge, and like 20 poles. Then when she was calm started trotting her (doing the same things as before) until she was completly chilled out and focused (not tired, just refreshed on training) Then started loping, she picked up her leads perfectly each time and it was a nice slow, even, balanced lope. Then worked on transitions, she did perfectly, I said walk she walked, I clicked she trotted, I kissed she loped. She did all instantly and stayed in the gait I asked for. Loped circles wonderfully, didnt go tearing around and kept a nice bend throughout.

We haven't gotten to lead changes yet, I want to give her more experience loping circles first before I do simple lead changes in a figure eight (dont think it will take to long)

My question is, do any of you have any patterns we can do? Show patterns to practice or something that is within her training level? (she doesn't neckrein by the way) The only thing I have is my cavalry and drill tryout patterns (which Im bored with)

We go on trail rides all the time so I dont have to worry about doing too much 'arena' work. I do not have an arena, or even a small pasture. I have a flat area on our land.

Any ideas would be great!
