Vit A for Rainrot
5 Attachment(s)
Hey ya'll! I have been giving Drifter the Vitamin A and D supplement for cows to help his rainrot as was suggested to me. I wanted to post some pictures to show how AWESOME it has worked. I originally spent around $200 trying to cure his rainrot, and since buying the one $14 bottle of Vitamin A and D, I have not used a thing and it is clearing up on its own.

The first picture is of the rainrot on his face when it first began to take hold. I began treating with MTG.

The second picture is roughly after 2 weeks of treatment, with no progression of getting rid of it.The patches on his face were scabby, wet, black, thick and gooey as evidenced by the picture. It was like scraping off black tar.

The third picture is at the worst stage. I tried Nolvassan at this stage, among betadine and iodine and listerine and MTG. Around this time was when I logged onto the forum and began seeking help. I was told to try the Vitamin A and D by some very awesome, knowledable people and they are right I am now a believer!

The fourth picture is 3 weeks into the treatment (so right after Drifter's 3rd dose). You can see the spots are drying up and most of the scabs have fallen off on their own accord.

The fifth picture was taken a few days ago on the day of Drifter's 5th dose. All of the rain rot has dried up, the scabs are gone and most of the hair is back! This was truly an awesome fix and watching this progression really shows how much it helped.

I wanna reiterate that i did not use ANY OTHER PRODUCT other than the Vitamin A and D supplement once I started using it. I will continue to update with pics as the new hair grows in. Thanks all! Just wanted to share this for any one out there who might be as skeptical as I was. If youre suffering through rain rot, try it! It might just work

you can also see it on his back legs in the 2nd pic, happy to report those scabs fell off as well and we have nothing left! His back legs are now sleek, black and shiny!

Thanks all :)

Looking fantastic!! I am a huge believer as well -- last year our pony had it real bad I thought she was going to be bald - tried absolutely everything then people on here told us about the Vitamin AD 0-- within 2 weeks almost all of the hair had started to grow back in! I was never so happy -- not saying it's going to work for everyone ... but definitely worth a try! So glad it worked for you as well :D

Yup! Not surprised at all. I have not had one single person try this simple solution to Rain Rot that has ever told me it did NOT work.

For more than 40 years now, I have not treated one single case of rain rot any other way and 100% of the cases (some covering nearly all of the horses' bodies I have used it on) have ALL cleared right up.

Once it is all gone, you can go to either a feed supplement (like Mare Plus) or can drop to one dose every 2 or 3 weeks. We are just going into the seasons where it is most prevalent.

Glad it worked for you. Good for you for trying it.

Oh the poor boy! So glad he's getting better.

When I bought my mare, she was starting to recover from fairly bad rain rot from the top of her withers to the base of her tail, and some under her mane. If I had've known that supplements could help, I definitely would've used them. As it was though she was at the stage of scabbing up and, luckily, a couple of washes with diluted Vetadine (in my own words - a non-ouchy iodine medicated wash) cleared it right up.

Isnt it great!? My horse had some serious rainrot, and I too was trying anything and everything to get tid of it. Cherie, on here suggested Vit A to me, so I bought some. How I wish I had taken pics like you, literally after the first time I gave it to him, it started clearing up! I was beyond amazed! Love that stuff!

I just happened to have pictures!! I didn't plan it.I wish I would have documented each week! I decided to go back and look at old pics when a friend started raving about how much better he looked. I knew he looked better of course, but I didn't realize how MUCH he had improved until I started looking at old pictures compared to once I had taken recently and realized it was a drastic improvement in a fairly short time period.

I love this product now and have even shared it with my vet. He couldn't believe how great Drifter looked and how well the hair was coming in. Also, randomly, it seems his old injury site is starting to grow hair! I wonder if the Vitamin A is helping this as well? Any thoughts? I am so excited to see that peach fuzz over that nasty scar!! Ya'll have no idea haha

What is the name of this miracle product? where to buy? is it oral/ or applied to skin?

DriftingShadow 10-02-2012 11:49 PM

I ordered mine from Jeffers Tiny!

It is under the cattle section...with injectable supplements. It is called Vitamin A and D injectable for cows. However with a horse you do NOT inject it. I simply add 1 teaspoon (or 5ml) to Drifter's food once a week. As simple as that! Nothing else necessary :) I occasionally brush him off to get the dead scabs and hair off and that is all! No disinfecting brushes, rugs, pads, etc either. It is truly AMAZING.

Here you go, Tiny! Exact link to the product I bought :)
