Ok, so here's the question:

What do you use as supplements for your horse that come straight from the pantry at home or the supermarket shelf?
I've been told of various products that you can get from the supermarket and use for supplements that are waaaaaaay cheaper than the vet clinic or horse store products. For example, someone I know is using gelatin from the store shelf instead of buying biotin from the vet clinic for their horse and they swear by it for their horses hooves.....also how about canola oil for coat condition?
Give me your ideas:-)

Canola oil or corn oil = extra weight and shiny coat
Honey for hooves= treats fungas
bread adds weight, but give no grain when giving it
apple cider vinager added to the water= very good for them, can't remeber what, but google it.
I will keep thinking

Chamomile tea packets (100%): $0.98 a box (about 4 days use): Natural anti-inflamitory, I've used it on a few swollen legs (nothing major, clumsy thing bumped herself on a log) and swollen bug bites, the swelling was down within a few days of use.

Garlic (fresh): About $0.50 a clove: Lots of health benefits, amazing for the immune system.

Paprika: I forget the cost: For the non-showing equestrians, not only is paprika a great color enhancer, it also gives a boost to your immune system.

Apple Cider Vinegar: About $4 a gallon: I swear by it for thrush.

Hmm... pretty sure I have more somewhere in my brain, but those are just the ones that came to mind.

Go watch Rick Gore's video on eye care and stuff, he has some info on human products for horse care (just make sure you double-check everything to make sure it IS in fact horse safe). He also has fly remedies and other stuff I think. Might be worth a look.

I've never heard the gelatin one... did they just add powdered gelatin to their horse's feet? Sometimes the affects are psychosomatic haha.

Nope, they buy the gelatin packets (you know, the canning type, plain....haha not raspberry or orange:lol:) and mix it in the feed:-)

For eye irritations:boric acid weakly diluted as an eye wash,have used on myself,equines & cats over the years & works great!:D
For treating proud flesh: meat tenderizer:-) {told to me by my vet}

Pretty sure it comes in a powdered form before water is added, but I could be wrong.

what do you mean a meat tenderizer?? The mallet kind? do you hammer on the proud flesh? Im lost
