How would you deal with a horse that naps when going out for a hack out?? Hes ok when hes with other horses but hates going out alone, I can get him to go round the block (clockwise) but apart from that its a constant battle. Any help I would really appriciate.

Keep his feet moving forward and his head up, don't let him get down between his knees. It won't stop him completely, but it will keep it from getting really wild. Then just keep on making him go forward until he figures out it's a nicer to just go for a ride than to get spurred, hit with a crop, slapped with reins and probably cursed at too.

LOL, I was talking to gal from New Zealand the first time I heard Naps and Float (trailer). She told me she was loading her horse on the float to go to a show and I had visions of a horse all groomed up for show on a raft going down a river......

Same kinda thing with naps, I envisioned a horse lopeing along and just.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ:lol:

I knew float, had never heard naps -- I was like, well, cue the darn horse to move!

He dosnt buck! He rears abit and dances about and pulls to go home, Ive read in a book that if you turn in round in 3 sharp cirles then walk him on helps plus standing still till he gets bored then walk him forward. I will try these techniques however just thought I would see if anyone on this forum has any suggestions.

Ive never heard of float so the raft down the river would be the first thing I would of thought of. lol. I really dont know where nap came from, Im sure there is a better word for it. Poor Murphy taking a nap halfway round a ride out lol

My horse naps when headin out by himself as well. He trys to turn back and will do the smallest ever effort at a rear, but I find that once I get after him the first time he does it on the ride, normally he knows I've got his number and he's grand. Like that, sharp circles and get him movin forward seems to do the job.
