Is this real? What are your thoughts on this?

I understand kind of where these people are coming from. The recent times have been hard on people. Like the ad says, you can't even give horses away sometimes. But really? I would rather put my animals down than have them endure the trip to Canada or Mexico. I don't care if it would be a "waste" at least they wouldn't have to go through the conditions that many of those animals go through. What is your view on this? I'm curious.

horse hauler to mexico or canada??

"We have several animals that need to go (and a neighbor has MANY) We are looking for any informaiton on the companies that haul horses and donkeys to canada or Mexico for slaughter.
It sounds bad, and we alwsys said we would never do this but we cant even give them away. Next option is a total waste of diging a hole and buring them, So at least something good happens this way.
Please send us whatever you know."

Desperate times calls for desperate measures. I couldn't do it; especially knowing how those trips are. But some people can put that out of their head and do what they must. It takes a lot of effort to bury large animals and these people may not be attached to them. Either way, its very sad. Why not send them to a rescue/shelter? They must have their reasons.

I'd venture a guess that the posting is meant to incite anger. Could it be real? Maybe. Is it likely to be real? Doubtful.

Nobody in their right mind would advertise that they need to get rid of their animals, and would rather send them to slaughter than bury them.

Slaughter is always an option and should remain one, but I'm betting that's just a troll post.

Good luck finding a shelter that has the money, feed, resources, and volunteers to be able to take them.
They luve i. this economy like the rest of us.

There are many people in the UK who take their horses directly to a slaughter yard and get the cash for the carcass - as far as they see if the horse is going to die then you might as well get paid for it
At least there they dont have far to travel, you can take them yourself and insist they are shot while you are there by making an appointment
There have to be independant authorities there to supervise that animals are treated correctly - though their are still complaints from time to time.
I'm not saying that its something I would do at this point in time if one of mine needed 'to go' but other people have different needs and circumstances and desperation can rule
There aren't enough homes to go around at present and thats not going to change any time soon. I came across one Charity that was suggesting raising funds to help people like this pay for euthanasia - makes sense in a way
In an ideal world there would be no slaughter yards but this is far from that and having a properly supervised slaughter facility in each state - or several in the bigger states would make things a lot better for horses like this.

It is a sad fact that all living creatures will eventually die. And old age isn't always kind to animals or humans. It really is too bad that there isn't a system in place so all pet owners are aware of what to do when the end is near & maybe a vet isn't. I knew what was available where I used to live, but really don't know yet here at my new place. I'll be researching it.

In US slaughter of horses was not being done due to some legal actions , (that have been changed recently), and so horses had to go to Canada or Mexico for slaughter for meat. The size of North America means that can be a very long and nightmarish trip for the poor animals. For the owner to drive them there might not be possible either.
