Is this a good deal? Weatherbeeta set of three
WEATHERBEETA LANDA RUG-SAC
I found it at a local tack shop for $179.99. This is my first winter with horses. We're in Central NY.
Aside from overall value is the D rating good for this area?
Do you mean you got all 3 for that money?
If you did that was a good deal though with a lot of places in trouble and selling up you can pick up some good deals at auctions etc.
Weatherbeeta have been around for a long time and sell in Europe as well as in the US.
I have some of their rugs that are really old now and still in great condition. I always have them cleaned the minute they are finished needing them on and re-proofed and stored in lidded damp proof containers.
I cant comment on how suited they are for your horse as thats going to depend on how you keep him and whay you do with him - stabled, clipped, worked etc
yes, all three for $179.99. I haven't trimmed my boy at all but his coat is still very short where as my mother in law's horse has the fuzziest ears already! I'm worried that he may have been blanketed in the past. I acquired him from an auction and have no idea about his previous care.
That's about what you should expect to pay for Weatherbeeta. You got a medium weight, rain sheet and fleece cooler. Blankets have gone up drastically in price this year, but like Jaydee said you can find them used or from closing stores for cheaper. Personally I would never pay that much, I own a fleece cooler, rain sheet, medium weight, and heavy weight all paid for less than that set, but again only one is a weatherbeeta that I bought dirt cheap because it looks like a disco ball threw up on it.
I also much prefer a 1200 denier, but if your horse does not get picked on or leaves it's clothes alone you should be fine with 600. I would never go less than that.
For future reference plan ahead, get blankets in spring when stores are trying to sell off their remaining inventory.
At present my fine coated ones are OK outdoors in just a thin waterproof - they are stabled at night and depending on the temperature which is still a bit changeable either have a cotton sheet or a very thin quilt (100gm) Schneider sadlery and Shires both sell this weight. As its pouring down with rain today the other two also have waterproofs on but normally they would be OK without until it starts to go below freezing
