Silly Things You Did Today
Sometimes it's the little things that make us smile the most. So this thread is dedicated to the littlest things that made you smile today. Post away!
Tonight, while walking back to my dorm I came across a leaf pile. I can't remember (no lie) when the last time I jumped into a leaf pile was. So here was my view from the leaf pile as I crawled through it.
Silly thing I dd today was to start to connect a lead out wire from the fencer to a new line. I hadn't turned it off at the mains!
Made me jump back, drop the wire and cuss for 10 minutes.
No need for a fence tester!
Mine is silly because of the time it takes. It's really crummy outside, raining, windy & cold. Last night my hubby got all of the pears out of our trees with his bucket truck (beats me climbing a ladder by a mile!) so today I have been busy in my kitchen.
We went from this
And after adding a bit of cinnamon, we end up with this - cinnamon pear sauce, YUM!
It makes me happy when they come out of the canner. It takes a 5 gallon bucket of Bartlett pears to make 7 quarts of sauce. Time consuming but worth it! I won't have to buy applesauce at the store (my kiddo likes this better), there is no added sugar & it's 100% organic :D
I did not do anything silly or fun today as of yet.
Well...last night me and my best friend were requesting songs and chatting with a radio DJ in California =P and then we watched a TwitCam of an ADORABLE boy who's on the X-factor this season. We had a ton of fun, just the little things! :)
MHFQ, my mom makes homemade strawberry jam and apple sauce. I love it when she does this because it makes the house smell amazing. I love Fall, especially October because of all the homemade things and the beauty.
Foxhunter: I've done something similar to that. I tested out an electric fence with my head once. The fence was working perfectly. Hurts, doesn't it?
We have had such a crappy summer, so wet, hardly anything has grown in the garden. Virtually no apples, certainly no pears, a few cherries (which the birds beat me too!)
I have managed to make strawberry, raspberry, plum, rhubarb and ginger jams.
Green bean chutney, chilli jam. Will be making tomato chutney and also what my grandmother called 'Ifits' chutney. If its left in the garden pickle it!
No potatoes, all but a few earlies were blighted. so depressing.
What is green bean chutney? It sounds good.
Oddly enough I just picked rhubarb again a couple days ago and made a pear/rhubarb crisp - turned out really good. Pretty strange having both of those ready at the same time :? I managed to can green beans, carrots, watermelon pickles, tomato juice, marinara sauce & salsa. Froze sweet corn & peppers. It's sad to think about buying veg at the store but I am going to have to.
Tempest I think that doing things like jumping in a pile of leaves is very important.
I am now in my 60s - still do fun things, much to the astonishment of several children who come here!
I blame my parents!
About 30 years ago my father, then in his 60s, and I went for a walk. I was recovering from surgery. We walked up over the Downs (Steep hill) which are covered in Holme Oak trees on one side.
Holme Oak leaves do not rot down like most eaves and these trees although mature are not very tall.
Dad and I were walking along the top line of trees. I spotted a hole on the barrier of branches and commented that the top of the giant slide was still there.
We looked at each other and walked to it. Took no tome to gather a cushion of leaves and away I went, Dad just behind me.
We slid nearly 700 feet from top to bottom emerging with dirty seats to our jeans, scratches on our arms and faces both roaring with laughter.
When it snowed Dad, then in his 70s was the first to go tobogganing, Mum was as bad, I caught her cantering around the arena on my nieces pony - bareback. She was in her 80s - she also rode around the field on my nephews ATV when she had never driven anything motorised in her life.
I hate "Act your age." means you miss out on a lot of fun.
May you forever see a pile of leaves and jump in it.
