Update on our pregnant mare!
Thought yall might enjoy an update on the mare who got in with my boy when he was still a stud and got bred.
She's due to foal around the end of next month and is pretty large, though not huge huge just yet. She's a maiden and seems to still be carrying the unborn foal up high instead of it being dropped lower yet, though I'm not worried about it and neither are her owners.
She's doing great, too, and has gotten so loving and easy to catch lately, though. We have ridden her a few times, bareback mostly, as she's fine to ride for about half an hour (walking only) but after half an hour, we've concluded that she gets a little sore as she crow-hops a little, but doesn't buck.
Watching her trot and canter in the pasture is hilarious, though... because she looks so funny...! The pictures don't do her justice in showing how large she's gotten, as the angles aren't right and it was getting dark when I took them.
Our preggers mare
Aaaand.... the sire! (now a gelding)
There is an ongoing debate in my family over what color and gender the foal will be. Most of the family thinks it will be a black and white filly, because the mare's bloodlines are known and both the mares sire and dam and grandsire and dranddam were black and white... but I have a hunch that the foal is going to be a red and white colt...
The mare is a Racking Horse. The sire is a Quarterhorse.
For start, both horses are pretty. I think it will be a black tobiano filly. :)

Beautiful, is she homozygous for tobiano or black? If not I am going to guess chestnut (solid or painted) or a bay (solid or painted) colt. I'm guessing Chestnut though. If the stallion is homozygous agouti you have no chance for a black and white no matter what. If the mare is homozygous black and the stallion is heterozygous you have a 50/50 black or bay and if the stallion is non agouti you have a 100% chance for black and white (if mare is homozygous black) :)
Sorry for double post, let us know what you get/got :)
will be cute either way :)
So, I guess she wasn't pregnant. ;) Told ya. Lol
So many babies due soon! Hoping you a happy and healthy foaling! :-)
So if the mare was "due" at the end of November 2012..........?????
Post pictures! I want to see what that baby is going to look like. :)
There is no baby.
