Being With Horses - How Does It Make You Feel?
I've been thinking a lot here recently on how owning and riding a horse makes me feel. It's brought out a lot of patent personality traits that I wasn't so acutely aware of. For example -
At first I had to pretend at being the boss. I was a little intimidated by my horse, and not at all confident. I pretended so long that after a while I wasn't pretending anymore. I AM the boss, period! My confidence has increased so much as a result!
Communicating effectively with my horse is an extremely satisfying feeling. And when training - the moment a new concept clicks... There are few prouder moments!
Ok, this one probably applies to everyone. ;) Riding at a canter or even a fast trot is absolutely thrilling. Very exciting with a little fear for seasoning. When we're going fast nothing matters but me and the horse!
There are many more of course, but these are three that I didn't expect and are unusual for me. How does your horse make you feel?

Content. Relaxed. Peaceful. Proud.
I rarely ride, my daughter is the rider. But just driving out to the barn, inhaling the fresh air (and I love clean barn smells too ;), helping groom the horse and watching my child and her horse work as a team...it's my therapy.
I work a high stress job in the business world. Horses are my escape. They take me back to basics, to the things that really matter.

Horses make feel whole
I have a physical and mental disability
I walk with a limp and my right side is weaker than my left
when people made fun of me horses did not they accepted me
and sort of knew I was different, I can run like the wind when I ride
mmm.. i feel like I can trust them:) funny right.. BUt I talk to my horse about my problems LOL..and sometimes frustrated.. but then I have to think.. he doesnt understand... because I AM DOING something wrong.. not him.. and I feel happy.. and relaxed for the most part.. agree with all of the above:)
they or Cody is any way my solace.. I just love being around him ....
Peacefulness. I tend to forget about anything else that bugs me, although sometimes I give a short rant to Indie.
Then when we go for a ride, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Most of all, Indie brings me happiness. :-)
Its my zen. Simple as that. After everything is said and done, after I am all wound up, I go to the barn and it is like all of that leaves me. My home, my marriage, my job, my family and friends... It disappears and there is just me and the barn, the horses. I dont need anything else.
Pure Bliss. Especially when its 45 degrees, raining, all the chores are done, and I get to hug a wet, muddy horse.
Sane. If I didn't have horses I'd probably be sporting a straight jacket
Seriously though, I wouldn't be me without them. Horses are a huge part of who I am. They have always been a part of my life and I really can't imagine not having any, the thought makes me nauseous. The day I can't ride anymore will likely be the day I die.
