New Barrel Pony :D
I haven't really been active in the forum lately as I haven't really had much to talk about. However I now have a reason to have a topic on this area of the forum :)
Things started to really look up for me a few weeks ago. I was having trouble tracking down a friend of mine to help teach me how to barrel race. Although I understood he was busy, I was continually disappointed by his lack of effort. On a whim, I ended up contacting a barrel racing coach about half an hour away. I had a lesson on one of her horses the next day. It went fantastic! She revealed to me that the horse that I was on was actually her open barrel mare and that I had ridden her better then she anticipated. At the end of the lesson, she pulled me into the centre and explained that she was too busy to ride all the horses that she had to work with, so was hoping that I would be interested in riding her horses in exchange for lessons! For me, it was an amazing opportunity and one that I certainly wasn't going to turn down.
So, nearly everyday since I have been out there, riding her sales and training horses. Most are barrel horses, but I'm currently fitting up a western pleasure mare and some trail horses. Most of the horses I was on had similar types of issues, just holes in their training that need to be fixed. After a few weeks, the lady put me on one of the 3 year olds she had in to sell. I have never ridden a horse like her! At three, she was amazing. Super light. Flawless transitions. Great in the ring and on the trail. I couldn't stop smiling. For having less than 100 rides, she was something special.
I bought her earlier this week :) Her barn name is Twister, but I'm thinking of changing her registered name (Sheza Twisted Bingo...I'm not a fan!) We have only lightly started her on barrels right now (a lot of slow work), but the goal is to complete in futurities this coming year. I don't know when our first exhibition will be, but I'm looking forward to it! I have high expectations for her.
Pulling a fake calf at an extreme cowboy clinic. She did better than a lot of the horses there
Walking around the indoor
Anyway, I just wanted to show off my new girl! Hopefully I'll have plenty of updates as we start showing
She is a very nice looking mare.....
But I personally wouldn't futurity her as a 4yr old. It takes a lot of work to get a finished barrel horse and to have her ready by that time is really pushing the horse. Which is why I am not a fan of futurities at all...
Why do you want to futurity her? Just curious.....
I love her ! Very cute face ! :)
Very nice mare. sounds like you are getting lots of saddletime!
Very nice looking horse. Do you by chance know her breeding line? Parents? Grandparents? In just curious thanks :)

If she's ready to compete as a 4 year old....go for it.

I dont see a problem with her competing as a 4yr old at futuritys. She is a gorgeous mare and looks and sounds like she has a great head.
Very pretty mare!
As someone else already asked, what's her breeding? How tall is she?
I don't like futurities either. Most horses get so burnt out on it as a youngster, they never have a career after their futurity season.
Hi everyone! Thanks for the compliments on her!
She comes from reining lines. Her sire is Heza Bigtime Bingo and her dam is Twist It Sun Dance by Dun It With A Twist.
To be honest, I don't know her height. I'd guesstimate her to be around 14.3.
BarrelRacingLvr -I completely understand your feelings on futurities. The trainer I'm using competes in them, so that is the path we are taking. I'm certainly not going to push Twister if her body and brain are not ready for it. However, my vet has said that she is mature enough to start running, so that is the goal for now. If she is having problems handling the work, we have next year or just skip the futurities and compete later on. She is meant to be a forever horse (barring unforeseen circumstances), and I'm unwilling to sacrifice her long term soundness :)
