Backing out of lease
I had a girl contact me a while back about one of my horses that I was rehoming. I got to talking with her and she told me she was basically just looking for a trail horse. I explained that I had another horse for lease and she was welcome to come out and meet him. While she was there I introduced her to my 13.2h pony...since I got my new (bigger) horse I haven't been riding him as much and I had been toying with the idea of leasing him for a while. To make the long story short she decided she loves the pony and wants to lease him. But, on my part, the more time goes by the more I find myself reconsidering the whole situation. This girl really is nice, but there is just something that doesn't seem quite right. I am very fond of this pony and I might be overreacting a bit, but there are a few things that just don't add up (mainly how she keeps talking about riding/training "problem horses" but she is honestly not THAT great of a rider.) She has not as of yet found a place to board/keep him, and no papers/lease agreement have been signed. At this point I find myself wanting to back out of the lease, but I am NOT good with words and I've no idea how to tell her this without offending her. I really do think she is a nice girl and there is no hard fast reason for my wanting to end this. I did end up leasing my other horse and I had no qualms about him going to his lessee so I'm not necessarily sure it's an attachment issue. It's hard to explain but it's a feeling I have and I just can't put my finger on it. Does anyone have any advice for me...and ideas as to how I should word things without offending anybody?
"I am sorry, but I have rethought the situation and have decided not to lease the horse at this time" (if you aren't going to lease at all) or "I'm sorry, but I do not feel that this is a good match at this time" (if you are going to be looking for a different situation for him)
Listen to your gut. Since you've leased the other horse out, if you don't need to lease this one out just tell her you've decided you're too attached to him and can't bear to see him go. That way it's your fault, not hers and she can't get insulted. OH I suppose she COULD but then you'd really know your gut was right.
I don't think you have a problem yet.....all that's been done is talk....
You might not see the girl again, who knows?
follow you instincts!!
I backed out of sale after when the truth about his abilites came out. No way was I going to sell two horses to someone not capable. That's pretty much what I said.
Always listen to your gut. I do in all situations and my gut has never steered me wrong. With me gut = God. If you cant put your finger on what it is but it just doesnt seem to be sitting well with you then maybe someones trying to tell you something unforseen. I would hate to go against it then later find out should have listened. I would be honest and just say "Its not going to work but thanks for your interest."
Listen to your gut, and just tell her you are no longer leasing out your horses.
