Brand Question

i got this horse from a friend who got it from a guy around the dallas forth worth area. She got the mare because the guy thought she was crazy. i wanted to find out some information out on this mare so i tried looking up the freeze brand she has on her hind quarter. its an h and a heart right next to it. i asked the lady who gave her to me if she still had contact with the man but she didnt. so im here just trying to figure out where this mare came from.

Find someone with a collection of Texas brand books. I say borrow because to buy them is expensive. Maybe your library has them. She's most likely from Texas, but no way of being sure.

You might try faxing or emailing a picture of the brand office and see if they will help.

In Texas, you are supposed to register your brand with the county clerk. In Oklahoma, brands are registered with the Oklahoma Cattlemens Association. You might get lucky if your mare was bred locally, otherwise you are probably out of luck.

I hate typing on my phone, I always leave words out....

What I meant to say was, you might try faxing or emailing a picture of the brand to the brand office and see if they can help you look it up.

After reading Bellasmoms post, I didn't realize that you register a TX brand with the county rather than with the state, which actually makes sense since you register vehicles/trailers with the county. If the brand was registered to someone out of TX it might be easier if you have a direction to go because brands are a state registry rather than county. Some of them post the brand book online.

If you ask a clerk to research it, expect to pay a fee.
