horse confidence builders
I am thinking of trying some confidence building excercises for the twh, and seeing if perhaps that helps his nervousness and trust issues.

I'm not entirely sure what he's confident at doing yet, nor of any excercises we can try to see how he does/likes them. Also, I am nto sure how to use them properly. Do I start our ground work with them, revert to them when he's nervous/flighty/frustrated, or do I/can I spend just a day doing them and upping the ante a bit?

YES! start from the ground.for example, getting him to follow u around in the pasture, then move to hard places for him to focus. teaching tricks is a great confidence builder. When u go to final build confidence on him.. tack up and go to an arena or enclosed area and hold the end of your reins let him take u for a ride. Walk, trot, and canter if your up to it. but just make sure he drops his head to the ground while walking before u go to the trot, and so on. have fun and just play around to see what he likes to do. :)
