Horse to rider size
My horse is 15.3 hands, Quarter horse. I'm 5'9". I ride him English and western. Do you think I'm a good size for him? Him for me?

I like shorter Horses as the ground is not as far away
I see no problem with your height verses your Horses height
I think it is how he is built and how balanced you ride.
It all depends on build. A photo would probably help. A heavier set 5'9" might look underhorsed, whilst a 5'9" beanstalk could look overhorsed. Of course, the build of the horse matters too. There's a big difference between a 5'9"er on an Arabian to one on a Clydesdale!
I'd say you would be fine though :)
He's a Quarter horse, so pretty big bodied, long legs. I don't look bad as far as my weight and his, because he's not skimpy and I'm thin. But I just have long legs (but once my trainer said that I have longs legs but he takes up my leg well because he's got a big body.)
So I guess I answered my own question! I was just wondering what you consider to be a good size ratio.
I don't think there's too much problems with heights. As long as your balance is good and your horse is sturdy :P in quite short and I enjoy riding tall horses. I have a friend who is super tall but she like to ride small ponies which she can because she has good balance. Can we see a picture of your horse?:)

I don't think there is really a proper ratio that can be applied universally. Different people look different on horses and at the end of the day, it's all in the eye of the beholder and of course, what the rider feels comfortable with (all given that the horse is fine with it, too).
I'm 5'9" as well, my horse is 16hh and neighter skinny nor "draftlike" and I think we're a good pair. My old gelding was 18.2 hh and even I looked like a dwarf on him, but then one of my students was riding him at times, she is only 5'6" and looked a ot better on him! It's all in the proportions.
It's hard to say without seeing a picture.
I am barely 5'2" and I have a 14.2hh finely-built Morgan. As my trainer says "he looks so SMALL until you get on and then he looks so BIG!".
I tried everything from a 13hh sturdy pony to an 18hh Warmblood when horse shopping and my lil gelding just *fit*. One of those moments where I hopped on and after 10 minutes just knew that he was the perfect size and temperament for me. I didn't feel like I was precariously perched on a giant or fighting with a pony-tude, he was just right.
I have a couple friends that occasionally ride my gelding, both are the same height but one looks like she's mushed onto a kid pony and the other looks really good on him. 'Course a lot of this may be because I am used to seeing the one on a gigundo Warmblood and the other has a paint the same size as mine!
I worry a lot less about size and more about what is underneath me. I am 5'3" and my boy is 16hh my daughter is 5' and rides a 16.3hh horse. Her saddle looks like a pony saddle on him but he is a good boy and that is what I was looking for in a mount for her.
I've got pictures of him on my profile, under my horses. His name is Ace.
