My horse is scratching the heck out of her neck!
Dreamer has been getting itchy lately, but in the last week, she has literally scratched all the hair off her neck and chest! She leans against the fence and itches like crazy!
I have tried to put salve on it and bathe her. I even put betadine on it too as that has helped my other mare. But Dreamer is getting to the point of scratching so hard some of the spot are starting to bleed! I have also tried the MTG, but that isn't helping.
does any one have any other ideas to get her to stop itching? Should I try corn starch??? I feel so bad for her.
I don't know that corn starch will do anything. Maybe baking soda though. Sounds like at the very least an allergy, but more likely a fungus. Will the vet sell you something over the counter for it?
You could try some Benadryl.(sp) Maybe having an allergic reaction .
A bath with Tea Tree Oil may help or Ventrolin (sp) antibacterial shampoo.
Gold Bond Medicated powder is really good as well.
My bes friends mare was real itchy too and she had a got a bald spot on her tummy and everything come to find out it had something to do with fly bites and her being allergic to them..
might not be the case for your horse but just thought I'd throw that in.. maybe its something to consider?
