Universal Horror Nights for The Walking Dead fans

As promised, here are pics from our evening at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. Cameras weren't allowed in any of the houses or rides, I wanted to take pics but wasn't about to get kicked out of the park, would have been my luck. This year they teamed up with AMC and had a haunted house based on The Walking Dead. There were also a lot of "walkers" roaming the street with the rest of the assorted Halloween creeps. There were 5 haunted houses, The Walking Dead - Dead Inside, Penn & Teller's Newkd Vegas, Alice Cooper's Welcome to my nightmare and three Universal houses.

I counted down for weeks for this!

These guys were pretty cool. They were stilt walkers but the stilt bases were like the prosthetics made for athletes - they were running and jumping.

There was a ton of smoke. The fog machines were pumping it out of tubes the size of drainage tile.

Lots of scaring going on. We heard a lot of screaming, a bit of crying and even saw 2 people vomit after going through Penn & Teller - it was very disorienting as it was a 3-D walk through. It made me a bit queasy but was really cool.

And a few more. We ended up buying vip passes because the lines were ridiculous. We plan to go again but not on Halloween, the amount of people there was pretty insane. The line for walking dead got up to 4 hours at one point, we still waited 45 minutes with vip tickets.

The wagon that was used on the show with the note to Sophia.

The Hollywood rip ride rock it coaster, loved it! Riding in the dark was fun. The rings on the side are the initial lift 140 ft up, you start out on your back. Each rider gets to choose their own soundtrack for the ride, I went with Motley Crue "Kick Start My Heart" - it was a good choice :D

Wow! This just made my bucket list :-) I don't know if I'm just a kid at heart or an adult with a psychosis but I love Halloween down to my bones.

It was extremely fun! I'm totally ready to go again, I felt like a kid for a few hours - yep, it's still fun to be scared :D At one point I had a walker stalking me close enough I could feel his breath on my neck, I turned around and said "Okay, would you just bite me already?" - he laughed and we took a picture, sadly it was one that was out of focus big time....DH shouldn't quit his day job to be a photographer.

I hope my husband doesn't find out about this, he will totally be there! I'm not against zombies and I love Walking Dead, but I just can't do haunted house type stuff. It freaks me the eff out...always has. I would be one of the people you hear crying, lol. It looks like fun! I just couldn't do it.

mtngrl, I think there were a lot of folks that thought they could do it and changed their minds. It was pretty intense. The street experience almost more so than the haunted houses, in the houses you expected them to be around every corner. On the street you had no idea when you'd be followed, jumped at, growling in your face, etc. At one point I walked out of the stall in the bathroom into a pack of supposed convicts escaped from a women's prison, all of them brandishing chain saws. I washed my hands fairly fast LOL!

They recommend no one under 13 in the park for that night but there were quite a few families with small children, I didn't like that at all. My daughter wanted to go (she's always liked being scared and loves to scare also) but there is no way she would have had a good experience. Going through one house with a family in front of us with 2 kids probably around DD's age (7-8) and the people working intentionally scared the kids at every turn. They were pretty upset by the time it was over. I wanted to chew their parents, I'd bet good money they had nightmares.

Thanks for sharing these pics, Mandy. That looks awesome! I'm with Redpony - this is definitely on my bucket list!

Airfare for four to Orlando, Florida: $1000.
Tickets for four to Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights: $300.
Staying up all night for months assuring your children that there are no zombies in the closet: Priceless.
