Suggestions on flexing and bending exercises

I have a 14.2 hh liver chestnut quarter horse that has a crap load of gas! Lol i breakaway goat ty and heel off him and i am starting him on barrels and poles. He is very well broke and supple, but when i got around a barrel or pole unless we goo around it 2 or 3 times he sticks his head in the air bears his teeth and either knockes the barrel or goes really wide. I do use a tiedown and his teeth have been done. Any suggestions?

1) How long have you been "training" him for barrels and poles?

2) What bit are you using?

3) Why do you choose to use a tie down on him for barrels and poles?

4) Has he been checked by a equine chiropractor?

5) Do you have a video? This would be easiest to see what is going on.

What kind of bit does he use? O.o

That sounds like an incredibly sore or sour horse, an overbitted horse, or one that is not ready to be out of the walk/trot if you ask me.

I can't think of a good trainer for you to look up right at this instant, but I don't want to give my person advice until we get the above questions by Beau and Mango answered....

I use a tie down on all my horses because it helps them balance properally

What about the bit? Have you seen a chiro? Does your saddle fit? How are you setting him up for the turn? Video?
