Patent leather is gaining popularity in Dressage - what do you think of it?
I hated it when I first saw it, thought it looked very cheap. I still hate it on top boots, unless you've got a lower leg like Edward Gal, that shiny/blingy boot is going to draw attention to any movement of your leg.
What about on bridles?
I have found a bridle that I really love, with a split row browband, and patent noseband. I have surprised myself by liking it and am now trying to justify buying it  I think if it were on a horse that was unsteady in the contact, it would be a bad move, but my guy sits up there quite nicely in a competion environment - training at home would be a different matter!!
My reaction: EUGH!!!
There was a jumper bridle at a store I went to recently that had a patent leather brow- and noseband... it looked awful.. I could maybe see it being pulled off a little bit better with black leather, but I'm skeptical...
Ick, with the browband too I think it would be god awful. The one I like is all normal leather, but with a split browband and a fairly fine patent leather noseband. I have amazed myself that I like it, as I've always those patent was foul!!
Patent leather reminds of my dress shoes when I was a little girl.
I like patent leather for a browband. It's just as nice as crystals. it should only be used in small accent areas, IMO.
got a photo of the bridle?
I don't like it, personally. Reminds me too much of saddleseat browbands.

My photobucket acc isn't working properly at the moment and the photo is on Facebook, so I'll have to wait until I get home to put a photo up unfortunately!!
Aaaaaan just discovered that said bridle comes in normal leather noseband too - HOORAY!
I have a double bridle with some minimal patent leather accents...I just adore it. It has patent leather piping on the noseband, all the keepers are patent leather and the stitching on the bridle is white. Also, the cheek pieces are rolled. I have a V shaped crystal browband on it (the original browband was patent leather). Personally, I think it's the most gorgeous bridle ever. But I agree that full noseband patent leather and the patent topped boots with crystals are just downright tacky. It CAN be pretty in small amounts...but as a trend it's been going way over the top.
I love the rolled cheekpieces, they wouldn't suit my curent riding horse as he's so solid, but I'm already picking what I want for my just turned 2 year old.
I'm thinking rolled cheek pieces, with a deep V single row of clear diamontes and probably an extra wide noseband. I'd love to find something that just had patent piping along the edges of the noseband. Just enough 'bling' to be classy and not tacky!!
