He won't quit opening his cut. + pic

My colt cut the side of his shoulder and I've kept it clean, and put medicine on it daily but he won't quit biting and licking on it. He keeps re opening it as it tries to heal.

I heard try a neck cradle but I don't have one. Can't imagine te medicine tasting good so putting something nasty on it probably won't work.

Did your vet recommend putting stuff on it? I would leave it alone. I think the meds only make you feel better and not the horse. It will take time for the granulation tissue to grow back/ fill in. Its problably ichy to him, because of the healing process.

The flies are extremely bad. Fly spray not even working.

Friends idea:

Why not put a fly sheet on him?

There is a spray for wounds to keep bugs off. My vet used it on a castration. It was purple and it worked. However I have no clue what it was called.
It was in an airsol can.

Because I don't have one. Otherwise I would . Even if I did have fly shears it probably wouldn't fit him cause he's 7 months and I haven't had him long.

Plus the flies aren't usually this bad. There's usually maybe 5 on the horse. Right now they're in swarms. It's bad.

That's what I'm using. Not working though

smearing vasaline over, might help. the bugs won't want to land then. But it might just melt off.

It's hot here so I think Vaseline would melt right off. It's been cold at night though so the flies aren't out so if I can keep him from licking it ill try letting him have it off at night and just keep it covered during the day
