My horse freaks out from tension on halter
We have been having problems with my horse trailering; the accident happened when i had clipped her into the trailer and she felt the tug of the clip and freaked out and you can guess the rest. So tonight I was messing with her a little bit and when ever i would grab her halter and hold it with a steady pressure she would back up and throw her head so I had to let go. She also has a history of freaking out when she would step on her lead rope. All I can conclude is that she thinks that when she pulls, the pressure will be released and she will be free; but when I was messing with her tonight she wouldn't react to the pressure right away she would kinda deal with it then she would start backing up then when she felt that she couldn't get away she would start to pull away. If you have any suggestions it would be very helpful thanks!

Clinton Anderson tv, he has a good episode on right now. He is halter breaking an untouched colt. I think it will give you some really good advice.

Sorry it is online, just gogle it.

Always remember it is the release of pressure that is the reward. We started all our young horses by letting them drag around a lead rope all day for a few days. Use an old one, it will be trash when your done. They may freak out at first but soon they will learn to get themselves out of their dilemma. I see no reason not to use this same method on an older horse. Just let her step on the rope, freak out, then figure her way out of it.

I would let the horse drag a lead around in a round pen or corral, so they learn not to panic when they step on it.....I did that with all my horses, I would let them out in the yard while I was out there and leave their leads/halters on, didn't take them long to figure out to not panic about it. I also have the aussie tie rings in our horse trailer, they are good for teaching the horse not to pull, I have them in the corral too.

thanks alot ill check out the clinton anderson video today. Also the lead rope idea well we sorta tried it but it was unexpected see i was lunging her and this was a long time ago but she pulled it out of my hand and then she took off and jumped the gate and ran for another half a mile so im kinda nervous she will hurt herself but i will get my father and brother to help on this and ill try it with a smaller rope! thanks again!!

you can do the short line on the halter in a round pen or somewhere she is confined. I used to have a horse that would panic if he stepped on his rope, I did that with him and I also bought the aussie tie rings for around here.....cured that problem.
Good luck and keep us posted on how it's going....
