hey everybody! i rode a horse that i haven't ridden sense the beginning of January the other day! He was very sweet and really good for me. This is also the first time i have ridden a horse sense him, and a different pony/horse in six months. I just want to see how well i have been doing on my eq lately so be as harsh as you want! I can see a few things wrong in them but i would love for your input as well. and sorry they are only trotting and one walking picture. these are screen shots and i couldn't get any good cantering or jumping ones.
You look like you have a very good foundation, your leg looks very nice. I would like to see your hands a bit higher so they are not so in your horses mane, thumbs up (no "piano hands")! Sit up a bit taller, my coach used to tell me "pretend like there is a hot air balloon attached to your helmet and it's lifting you up!". Last thing, have a closer contact with your saddle, this is just my opinion but I don't like seeing riders "hovering" in the saddle, I've seen so many of them go a** over tea kettle lol.
Keep up the great work, you look like you are very talented for your age!
The big thing that jumps out to me is your ear-shoulder-hip-heel line. Hip-heel is perfect, ear-shoulder is perfect. You just need to align the two; it looks like you're leaning forward quite a bit. The whole 'balloon pulling you up' idea that Fulford said is brilliant.
And again like Fulford said, your hands. They need to hover over the neck rather than around it, and your hands need to be upright. A way I used to get myself into the habit was to give a thumbs up and then put your thumb down over the top.
You're doing pretty well otherwise, and I envy your leg position. I'd spend a bit of time working on your posture, because seeing those pictures I was imagining the horse dropping its head and pulling you straight off over the front. If it helps, get someone to hold a broom handle or something similar next to you whilst your sitting on the horse, and have them line you up to give you a feel for it.
I know how much you have improved in the last year, so I want my critique to be prefaced with a compliment on the HUGE improvement you have made. you try SO hard and it shows.
Regarding this photo:
Nice lower leg and alignment which would be nearly perfect if you'd take that roll out of your lower back , lift up your hands a wee bit , with thumbs on top, and roll your shoulder back and drop them. All of those things go together. STart with the shoulders and see if the other things don't kind of follow along natrually. I know you are up out of the saddle in this photo becuase you are rising to a left diagonal, and maybe doing small crossrails?
thanks!! and no we were just trotting around. i almost spent half an hour trotting because his trot is so bouncy.
