So my mare has none. Nothing. not even a tiny bump. She has normal sized chestnuts. They never grow out really far, but they're not tiny.
Anyway, is there a reason she wouldn't have them? She's a STB. free-legged pacer. 11 years old.
Could it have anything to with her breed? Or that she's gaited? My friend's Paso has the TINIEST chestnuts ever, idk about her ergots though.
I think it just depends on the horse and nothing to worry about - at least from my own experiences:-|
Of my four, I have to nip the ergots off two of them in the Spring. Both are TWH's but the third TWH doesn't have that issue.
The Arab hardly grows chestnuts and I never see ergots on him, either.
Maybe the horses with smaller ones are more evolved and better!!! :O
ahaha, just joking (: all of them are wonderful !
