Ah the little annoying things. ;D

Okay so this isn't a serious rant, more a joke really and everyone feel free to stick your additions on here. Just the little things people say about you or your horse that sting a little bit... even if they shouldn't.

Example: riding in a group lesson, once finished a lady commented on my horses 'tiny pony strides' and how it was 'so cute'. Hey lady, my horse isn't a pony! And those 'pony strides' are the product of six months of hard work teaching him to COLLECT, COLLECT, COLLECT. Yes, we got an astounding 9 strides in the 6 stride line of poles but 6-8 months ago we would've gotten 5 flat, no option of 'collection' offered.

Clearly I can laugh it off now, and she obviously didn't have any bad intentions, but it makes me wish I could just brag about his progress instead of biting my tongue and saying 'yeah, he's cute isn't he!'

That when people say riding is easy.

"Riding isn't hard, you just sit there and the horse does all the work for you"

:-x

Apart from silly things that people say about horsemanship in general (because there have been LOTS of threads about that), I dislike when people, both horsey and non-horsey, sometimes say that:

* My horse is "nothing special" (oh please, just because he didn't cost thousands and thousands, and because we don't do high level competitions, gives you no rights to evaluate my horse as a "nothingspecial" )

* He's fat (apparently, you've been looking just at your trotters and purebreds, and forgot to educate yourself about the typical conformation of carriage horses and drafts)

I usually don't let these things get to me, because I know they're just not true.

"he is too pretty to be a standardbred" or "he can't be a standardbred because he is tall" or "good thing you are next to the mule rescue". The first one, my family bred this horse so yes he is a standardbred. Yes he is tall to the second one and the third one just go F$%^ yourself. With these kinds of comments on the ground there is a reason I don't ride in public.

Had someone horsey today say about my new foal "Oh Friesian x, there useless" lol. Lucky I already knew the only horses she believes are useful are TBs

It burns me up when someone feels the need to point out "you know, there are better horses out there. You're just impressed because this one is (or these ones are) yours."

Well DUH! Of course I am more in love with my own horses than the ones I'm never going to own or ride.

I don't like hearing about how awful one of mines hooves look. Yes, I know they're awful, I got him worse than that, it isn't like I can magically repair them or force them to grow out! Trust me, I would love to start exercising and training him.

I also hate that my dogs still feel the need to bark at the horses and cows. It's been a month, get over it!

When hikers see me riding my horse on the trail and say "That's sure a lot easier!"
I bet none of them have experienced how incredibly sore you can be from riding a horse on VERY tough trails all day. Most of them probably have never been on a horse! But that is most, not all.

"Oh your appaloosa's tail is fake right?"

No crazy, keep your little jealous ass over there.

"I've only been around horses a year and Im already a farrier and a trainer."

Oh really? How long were you an apprentience for a farrier? And whats the first thing you do when starting out a 2year old mare to ride?

"Just make him go over a 5ft jump. The people on tv do it. It cant be that hard. Maybe you're just a bad rider."

How about I ride western and they ride English? How about my horse isnt conditioned to jump anything over a foot and half. And maybe I am a bad rider but I dont see your ass on a horse going over jumps that 5 ft, or let alone even on a horse at all.
