Scab; Pick it off or leave it on or...

Or put ointment over the top of it?

Ricci was kicked in her side/haunches last week, vet was out to clean up and cut away the skin flap. He told me to keep it moist but I haven't had a chance to apply ointment until now. So what do I do with the scab?

If it were me I would leave it, and apply your ointment if thats what the vet recommended. Is their a drainage ? if their is keep it soft, so it can drain.

Leave it alone. When it's ready, it'll fall off on its own.

Okay, thanks folks!

I will add its only a flesh wound, peeled off a few layers of skin but it's essentially just a scrape. She's no where near as sensitive as she was. She has a hematoma at the bottom of her belly. I'm not too worried about that unless someone thinks I should be?

I'll leave it alone, apply ointment if I feel I must. Thanks again!

The scab is nature's protection. Didn't the vet look at the hematoma?

The wound was swollen when I found it. The swelling just migrated to the lowest part of her belly over the last few days.
