Is this scratches? How do I get rid of it quickly?
I was just wondering if this was scratches, I remember my guy having something similar two falls ago, but this just seems not to go away. I have been picking the scabies of and watching it clean and then putting Desitin on it.
But the next day or two days later the scabs are back! What is a quick way to get rid of this?
How do I add pictures quickly again?
That's crazy because I was going to post pictures of my horses foot to see what people would suggest. How did you get pictures of my horses foot? lol
So far I have soaked it and then picked off all the scabs and shaved it per my farriers direction. Then I put triple antibiotic and antifungal cream on it every day for about 2 weeks. I got almost all of it gone except for the part at the crease in the back. It still looked exactly like your pictures. Raw and bled if I picked at it.
So, that didn't seem to work super well so the farrier recommended covering it with the triple antibiotic/antifungal and then wrap it up and leave it for a couple of days. I did that and then when I took it off t was way worse!
I am back to square one so I'd love to have some recommendations from other people as well. I'm going to soak it and start the first process over again tomorrow since that sort of worked.
Does anyone know if there is any point or reason to have the vet out? My farrier was worried that it would be a problem if I didn't get it cleared up before winter.
Good luck to you! It's an absolute pain in the butt!
Haha! I know! It is a pain.
I have been picking off the scabs, clearing it out with warm water and then Desitin, but nothing seems to work! My guy seems to be sore in the canter because of it! Does mouthwash work? ( I heard of this)
Everyone will tell you different..I have tried several things and nothing worked but vasaline..I also did not pick the scabs.. I had for several years in a row and now I haven't had for years.
Grey or light colored horses get it more often then dark colored horses.
Vasaline worked for me:)
