How to get back into shap.
So I haven't seriously ridden for about 4 years, and I need to get back into shape before I start taking lessons again. Any suggestions?
Im not sure how in shape you currently are so its kinnda hard to say what you should be doing....
Im wanting to taking English lessons soon but im really badly out of shape. In the last couple weeks Ive started to go jogging to build up my cardio and then Im going to start running stairs to help build and tone my leg muscles. I throw some core exercises in as well (planks, sit-ups, crunches, etc...) everything will help with my two goals.... #1 to lose some weight, and #2 to help with my riding...
My horse hasnt had any english training and im going to be starting in a couple weeks. So after she gets used to the idea of troting while im posting Im going to start posting without irons so that I can refine those muscles.
I dont really want to start lessons till my body is in better shape. I dont want to pay a trainer to get me into shape before I can basically start riding properly.
Sorry this got soo long, I hope it helped some...
loosen up your ankles (mini squats -balls of feet on stair with heels down over the edge -gradually widening your stance over a couple of weeks or you will hurt!),the ever dreaded full squats, stretching, sitting and standing posture-really look at it in a mirror and start working on that, shoulder rolls, and drink lots of water. Walking is a great way to begin any program if you are out of shape-i am much too old to jog-so i walk-alot-i also stretch out arm joints and fingers. Welcome back into the saddle-i had a very long absence and am overjoyed to be back in it.
Unlike what many people think... the part of your body that you work most isn't your legs, or your arms. It's your core. Which means... some of the best exercizes you can do would be exercizes that strengthen your core muscles. Muscles like your back, abdomen, and butt. Primarily your abdomen and back though.
Pilates is good for that... I need to start doing it again. Because when I was doing it... it helped a ton. :P But I'm lazy.
Also... just look up exercizes online. You'll find a ton!
you are so right!!!!!! posture means nothing if you cant hold it up!!
Ugh... don't I know it. The first time I rode, several weeks ago... my legs were ABSOLUTELY fine... the horse was being good, so I only had to barely squeeze, and all, so my legs didn't hurt... but my abdomen was KILLING me... heh... so I did some Pilates... and it helped. :P
Thanks everyone! :D
