Help! Eye Drops
My horse is on 2 different eye drops right now...he will be on one of them for the rest of his life, he usually isnt too bad about them but he gets a lot right now...between the two I have to instill 2 drops 5x/day (one 2x/day, one 3x/day)...he will soon be on an ointment temporarily that he will need 3x/day as well. He squints hard and shoves me with his face when I try t put them in...any advice??
I have never used eye drops but when it comes to putting things on a horses face these are some things ive dont to trick them
Give them a carrot and while they chew put it in the eye, but always give him a treat after wards
Pretend to ride him, but and the bridel half way and bam squish it into him.Give him a treat after
Bring him to some grass and when he puts his head down to eat ( hay woks to) squish it in
Try stuff like this and dont forget to give him a treat after
Oh what fun that is...Had to do it too several times a day.. she learnt to squint too..I used treats... tried to give at the same time she would look at the treat and in that instant I would squirt in her eye. I put the meds in a very tiny seringe so it would quirt easy.
thanks for your advice!
I have tried givin him treats and rain but he still isnt havin it...Ive tried tied and untied and feedin him out of my hand and a bucket but he is not happy...hopefully it will be easier with the ointment...
