Mare fighting with mares
I have a 20 year old mare that I keep In a pen in my front yard that is a pet but my kids ride her, Well I have a couple mares in the field And I was wanting to put her out there with them BUT there is one problem she does not get along with the others! The kids will ride her and the other mare will come up (they have a fence between them) And she will start kicking at the mare on the other side. Will she ever be able to be in a fence with the other mares I really dont want a vet bill when I put her in the field with the others!

Establishing the pecking order, there's gunna be kicking and biting for a few days.
They are horses, not dogs

If you have the time and can keep an eye on them, start out putting her together with the more dominant of the other two for a few hours and then separate them again. Repeat the next day. Do the same with the other mare. I usually separate them at night for 3-4 days rather than find an injury in the morning before leaving them together all the time.
Mares are very serious about their pecking order, but it almost always works itself out. Keep your soap, water, and neosporin handy, though.
