I am showing my horse in showmanship. He gates about 60% of the time we think he may be a Morgan mix? But we donít really know all we know is that he gates. What should I wear? Should I Park him out? He parks out most of the time and I have been work with him on it more. Should I put the ribbons in his forelock & mane? What kind of halter should I use? I was thinking a saddleseat show halter? Any tips?
I used to own a gaited horse and I always parked him out, however he wasn't part gaited he was full.
I would first and foremost train him to JUST gait, if you can just gait then I would say park him out. Especially if your doing Saddle Seat, I would park.
You don't have a saddle seat halter, you just use a bridle. ALWAYS use a bridle when you do showmanship for Saddle Seat.
If you do just SS for showmanship this is what you would wear-
Bridle path wise I would do two ears back, and I would also work on growing out his mane. Ribbons a must.
I had a Morgan stud I showed locally, and I always parked him out. He wasn't gaited, but if I didn't park him the judges thought he was an arab or a QH! Parking became a signal that they shouldn't judge him by stock horse standards. At breed shows, we usually didn't park, because he showed mostly hunter and dressage.
