how can I figure out what size saddle I need? My horse does not have big withers and the two saddles I have tried, fit him, but not me.I am new at riding and just feel like I'm going over board,I am 5'5'' and about 135lbs.
you could try 15 or 16 in
ok, thats what I thought, the ones I have are 17'' (i think) I will measure them..thanks :)
I think the first saddle was a 17, the second a 16,the second one is the one that seemed so much bigger.but I'll have to check the sizes again
I'm 5'3" at 120 and ride a 15" comfortably. 16" is too big, so I would think a 15 or 15 1/2 inch would be best for you. Also, there are many different seats and styles of western saddles. Personally, I love reining saddles - my seat is much more secure in this one, and seems to have an overall tighter feel to it. The pleasure saddles seem to be flatter built, and then barrel saddles are completely different from those.
the last saddle I tried was a 16'' and I have about 5'' between me and horn,
sandsarita: Thanks for the advice, you were lots of help, I wanted a deep seat saddle
so I have been looking at reining saddle, I think thats what I want, it has a deep seat. 15'' to 15 1/2'' is going to be a good fit, Thanks guys.
This site has tons of info on it. hope it helps!
I'm 5'6" and 95lbs and am most comfortable in a 16in. 17 is way too roomy in the seat, and 15 and even smaller is fine, but it makes it hard to get stirrups long enough.
