dark or light oil saddle?
I am in the market for a show saddle. I have a paint (black/white). He is more white than black. What color saddle for the show ring? Seems like everyone is using light oil these days. I show all around western
I prefer dark tack myself
Ditto, and I think that dark would look better on your horse.
The black saddles are in style right now, BUT if you are going to go that route, you need to have a higher end saddle. The lower quality saddles just look cheap in the black.
Also, you'll then be relegated to chaps and outfits that will go with black.
You can have a saddle dyed, or dye your own black if you find an older lighter colored saddle that has discolored or darkened with age.
I prefer the dark oil saddles, too.
Hope the link works, its a pic I took of a friend showing in the dark oil tack. I think it looks sharp

That link doesn't work.
Dark Saddles are becoming more popular, but light oil Saddles are still the most popular in my experience.
A Mahogany would look good on your Horse, but have never seen that color in the show ring.
To cowgirl 4753: Would love to see the picture. You could email it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I was thinking a dark oil saddle would look best on him. I just didn't want to look like a clown in the show ring! The light oil is nice, but it doesn't fit all horses. Glad to hear dark oil is making a come back!
