Doing it wrong the whole time.. ?!
*Sigh* So I started riding in august. It's been a good 4 months and I FINALLY just started riding with my heels down correctly. I thought I was doing it right, and I guess it looked right for the most part. But my feet would slip out a lot. Well in my lesson the other day my trainer was stressing it to me, and I mentioned it as well, that my feet were just not correct. My goodness what a difference having the weight in my heels with them down makes! And as soon as that improved, so did everything else; Hands, elbows, my trot was so much smoother. I'm just frustrated that it could have been like that sooner had it clicked like that in the first place. :-/
Has this happened to anyone else?

I didn't have any problems with my heels, but with my lower leg. I used to push my lower leg back, and if i don't think about it i still do it! But i remember the first time i finalky got my leg in the correct position i was kike "oh! That's what it is supposed to feel like..." i facepalmed pretty hard :P im glad you figured your heels out though! That is akways a hard thing to get right! Good luck now that you've got it! :D everything really will be soooo much easier from here on out :)

I started riding english two and a half months ago. My problem wasnt my legs but my upper body. As a western rider i want to lean my shoulders up to give the horse rein when they ask for it. I have to constantly remind myself not to give in when the horse leans against me. Im also not used to such crazy strides (going from a quarter horse to a warmblood! Yikes) and i tend to tense up when i cue a canter.

Glad to know that ill figure it out one day xD

Of course. It happens all the time. you often have to make a lot of mistakes before you do things right. It's too bad your instructor could not see that your weight was not flowing down correctly. But it's possible she was focussing on something else at the time. You can't correct everything at the same time, so you do what you can, step by step.
in a few months, you'll look back and say, "I can't believe I used to hold my reins like that". or, " wow, I sure was bumpy at the trot".

take video to document the changes.

It happend to me my heels were not good for my first year and a half of riding. But now they are awesome!

I know tinyliny with videoing your lessons it is really helpful and sometime really funny. Lol

Yep, that kind of thing happens to me all the time, and I've been riding for about 6 years. There really is too much to get it all at once, and until you see photo/video of yourself you don't always realize the bad habits you've gotten into. I know I'm better at maintaining a proper body position now than I was a year ago, and WAY better than I was two or three years ago, but I know there's always room for improvement and I still have a ways to go!
