1/4 sheets during warm-up
At the barn a board at alot of the boarders have begun using 1/4 sheets during there warm-up to help warm the muscles faster. Does anyone else do it? if so, how long do you keep it on for? Your whole ride or just the warmup? I have an older horse and am considering getting her one. It takes her most of our lesson to warm up so we don't get much time to work on the important things. Thanks!

I personally think down on them. In a warmup, you are really warming the horse's leg muscles and such - not their bum. Sure, the shoulder and hindquarters are important, but It's more of a leg thing for me. If you were looking to warm up quicker, I would wrap your horse's legs with polos. That should help a lot. I just think the quarter sheet would just make them hot. Then you have to take much longer to cool them down. They are cute, but not the best idea, in my opinion :)

I use one, but when and for how long depends on what I'm doing and how cold it is. For a walk only ride, he'll have it on the entire time. For anything above light work, it's on until he's warmed up. I don't see that it warms up his muscles faster. For my horse, it keeps him warm so that he's not cold, grumpy and tense, which makes him warm up faster than he would without it. He gets crabby when he's cold.
