Could this filly be draft cross? Sire is unknown, dam is quarter horse
This filly is getting huge, and she seems to have some feathering. We didn't know the mare (buckskin Hancock mare) was bred when we bought her. The people we bought her from aren't answering! So I am trying to figure out what she is going to be. I know it's hard to tell with her only being a mth old but I will post more pics as she grows! If you have any ideas feel free to share, thank ya much!
I'll post more pics as soon as I figure out how to do more than one at a time! 8)
Feathering like that is normal atleast with many breeds when they have winter coats. Its hard to tell without pictures of her whole body though...
It's hard to tell from the pics. Just looks like cute fuzzy baby feet. Hancock horses are usually big, and if I remember right have some Percheron way back in the line somewhere.
Agreed, it's hard to tell with the winter fuzzies, especially just from the one picture of just the legs. Can you post other pictures of her whole body?
Also, feathering isn't a guarantee of anything. I've seen lots of full bred quarter horses that had more feathering than one of my draft cross geldings.
More pics (hopefully)
Sorry guys I'm new to this stuff! The dam is 13.2Hh. My little Rook is prob just a quarter horse but we've never had quarter babies with hair that curled like hers in the winter. Lol And I thought the waiting would be over when she finally delivered, By the way thanks for all the info, it's much appreciated!
I definitely think she could have draft in her. I don't have much experience with Hancock horses, but she has an incredible amount of bone!
definitely looks draft cross :D lucky you! Got any more adorable baby pics?
Heres the last one. I don't know if you can tell but momma (Wren) is not hairy at all. We are in Texas and believe it or not it was 80 today, We don't have many fall babies so I'm not sure if I'm just reading too much into the leg hair or not.
Looks like she could be a draft cross to me.
With those stockings and a blaze....my bet is a clyde. You are SO lucky! They are wonderful!
