3 months later...How lame is she?
This week marks the 3rd month of Rumor's injury/illness. We've had so many ups and downs with her over those few months. She is happy and healthy now, but we are still treating her for arthritis and will the rest of her life. The severity is yet to be determined by further XRays in April after 6 months of rest.
Her hock is still swollen, but that's just normal for her now. Who knows if the swelling will ever fully disappear.
Since I see her every day, I can no longer tell if she is making improvements or if we are still at a standstill. I got these videos today in hopes of you guys being able to shed some light on how lame she actually still is. Her transitions can be a little "sticky" at times but overall, I think she is looking really, really good! Especially considering where we were 3 months ago.
Her weight is perfect, her coat is so healthy she has dapples...In her winter coat. :D She feels good. And best of all, ALL my horses are getting along now so she has friends!
Please excuse the mud on Rumor. She loves to roll. And also excuse my naughty niece Jersey. She absolutely adores "Wumor" and throws a hissy fit if she can't be right next to her.
Looking good maybe a slight hitch at the trot but not bad. Shes a beautiful girl love her color and that head.

Agree with spirit - looks a bit tight in the trot, but pretty good all considering! She didn't look in pain and there didn't seem to be any favouring or head bobbing so the hitchiness might be from lack of use? *shrugs* I'm just glad to see her still on her feet!!
Oh, and your "goggies" are really nice, and Jersey is cute! :D
I do think she may be a little tight due to the way she limped and drug the leg around for 6 weeks. She lost a lot of muscle tone so she will have to regain that gradually and rebuild strength in her whole back left side. Which would make perfect sense in why she would be tight.
Both my vet think she'll be suitable for trails, but may never be the barrel horse I had purchased her for. *Bummer* But we will see. I'm still holding out hope. I'm doing everything I can for her! I promise! She'll be going back for XRays in April, she'll be looked at by that vet extremely thoroughly as he is a lameness specialist and she'll be looked over by my equine chiropractor before she goes back into work. If she requires surgery, we are all for that and will load up and haul her wherever we are referred.
Also, She is on 6ml Pentosan IM Injections every 2 weeks. Had 12ml loading doses once a week for 4 weeks. Absolutely awesome stuff! I'm a HUGE fan. She is on CortiFlex with HA and she is given MSM with her grain daily. And I have Back On Track Magnetic Hock Wraps for her.
I've been lucky not to have anything like this happen but I've heard great stuff about pentosan from a number of people - glad to hear it's working for you too!
She is looking better!
Out of curiosity, I cant remember if you ever said, is she a Streakin Six bred mare?
Excuse the dog hair on the pedigree picture. The dogs are EVERYWHERE x3. LoL. Underfoot, in your food, on your clothes. They are lucky we are big dog people. :D
No Streakin Six in her. Only Illegal Runaway, Runaway Winner, First Down Dash, Dash For Cash, Beduino, Zevi and Lucks Chic Gay.
Although I'm looking at crossing her with a Frenchman's Guy son who's maternal sire is Dash Ta Fame, and he has Streakin Six in his pedigree. But that's a ways off. ;-)
LOL! I understand about the dog hair :)
Cool! I really like the looks of her. I hope you breed her, and then you would be forced to post Rumor baby pics..tee he
