Horsey sunburns

Hi. My horse recently got a sunburn and now it has gotten all...i guess you could say crusty, almost like a scab, and i am assuming it is in the late stages, it is hard to explain with out pics, but it can be rubbed off easily if i were to try. We are treating it but does anyone here know who long it takes to fully dissapear or stop being so crusty?? thanks. its all around his nose and up until about the bottom of the flymask.

Sonny had that!!

I applied desitine on his nose (yep diaper rash stuff hehe), and it disappeared within a few days. Since his nose is pink I always put desitine on it to protect it. Since it's white it will keep the sun from hurting his nose.
Also you can use baby sunblock.

Also there are fly marks with a nose guard

Oh yeah i hear it is common. we are getting baby stuff today, but i will have to look into that flymask, i have never heard of it. I have only seen the ones that cover the eyes. that might be a good idea considering he is bald faced.

We have this exact one for my fiance's gelding.

That's him in my avatar, so not only do we have to worry about his nose getting sunburn, but all of him!

I have to say that he did not have 1 sunburn this year and he was out 24/7

Omigosh, its perfect it covers all his baldness, lol that sounds weird but you know what i mean. With summer winding down though i will probably buy it soon and store it for next sunburn season though  so we dont get repeat crustys.

This is the best fly mask, it stays on, covers the nose, protects from sun burn... I love them. http://gallopinggrape.com/cashelcomf...klongnose.aspx
