Swollen fetlock/Lame - OTTB
I wanted to see if anyone's experienced anything like this before.

One morning, I went to feed by OTTB and noticed he was dragging his front left hoof along. He wouldn't extend it at all. He'd put weight on the leg if he locked it, but he wouldn't extend his hoof. The vet assumed he might have pulled something or tripped over himself and she put him on 3 days of banamine and dexamethasone. While he was on those, he was nearly good as new. He'd walk on that leg, though he was a little slower than usual. As the medicine wore off, he went right back to being completely lame on that leg.

My vet wants to jump right into a shoulder x-ray, thinking it might be a shoulder fracture. However, I don't think that's the issue. His fetlock looks a little swollen, but it's not hot. Also, that's the common leg for OTTBs to have issues with.
Has anyone dealt with anything like this before?

I'd opt for the x-rays. His fetlock could be swollen due to fluid accumulation, not because he has an injury that's causing lameness. If he has no pain reaction in his fetlock, then the injury may very well be farther up.

i agree, i would have the vet do shoulder xrays. the fetlock my just be swollen because it is so low on the leg.
