Hey there guys,
I'm thinking of buying this horse, but I'm still not confidant with looking at conformation. He's an ottb, and 3 years old so he might still have some growing to do. To me he looks a bit narrow but nothing else screams out that much.
I'm looking to take him on as a prospect eventer at the lower levels, so without further adieu, here's Cryptography. With a nice fluffy winter coat.
I really don't like his front end.. front legs seem peg-straight (and not in a good way), pasterns seem long and weak, and his shoulder is very steep. His wither comes waaaay back past the middle of his back - finding a saddle to accommodate that is going to be a pain. I'd want to see a better photo of the hind end as well... Overall, I give him a pass, personally.
MistysGirl I'm planning to do Horse Trials at the lower levels.
I did notice the withers a bit but my friend is a professional saddle fitter, so finding tack to fit shouldnt be too hard.
I'm mostly looking for anything that would keep him from moving nicely or any faults that may result in him going lame or affecting his jump. I haven't gone to see him yet so I'll try to get a better hind end pic if I do.
Also-this is another one I'm looking at. Not sure if I like how high is bum is though. If you wouldn't mind putting out your thoughts on him (Pro) too that would be amazing.
Looking at the straight-on pic from your OP, I really don't like his entire front end. He's VERY base-narrow, and his near front looks very wonky; it doesn't come straight down from the chest, it twists outwards.
Gotcha - similar horses I really don't like the second horse's near fore either... very over at the knee and crooked-looking. I like the rest of him better than Horse #1 though. Horse #2 is downhill, with a less than desirable neck. Much better pasterns, but needs a good trim job. His pelvis angle and femur angle are quite different..
Take a VERY close look at the left front of the second horse. Looks like some issues there.. fetlock joint area and tendons above. A bit over the knee too.. but that is NOT a problem (cosmetic).
First horse is very narrow and looks to have rotational issues with the left front. I like the strength in the first horse's top line but the photo is not very good so it may not be true in person. Looks to have big roomy hocks too.
