depends what you are doing. Throroughbreds and QH or a mix of the two would be my suggestion. Maybe an Arab, depending

I'm assuming that you're talking about gymkana events like barrels, poles, etc, right?

If so, then it's usually stock horses that excel there; Quarter Horses, Paints, Appaloosas, some TBs and Appendix QHs.

If you want to be really competative, then you'll need to look farther than just breed. You'll need to look at conformation, temperament, and breeding too.

I have rode an Arab, trained a TB and ridden and trained QH and Paints. I prefer the latter two. They just have this natural ability to get under themselves and negotiate the quick turns easily, and with less hours spent training. Not saying the Arab and Tb could not do it, they could and well. But I just love working with and training my stock breeds as they seem to just have a knack for it.

I agree i had a fast little arab gelding but he did have trouble with getting up under himself more then the quarter horses i have been riding. Now he did well and sometimes would really get under himself but they aren't always the best choice if you really want to compete.

Quarter Horses will be your most popular.

I have an Appendix QH and a Paint for my speed horses.
