The kiddo riding thread
2 Attachment(s)
Snapped a quick pic of M riding Stub a bit ago and thought I'd start a thread about our kids that ride. Feel free to add stories or pics!

M is 7 and this year will be her first small fry pleasure season (at a whopping 42 lbs she's much too big for walk/trot, just ask her ) She's been riding my sister's ornery old quarter pony, Stubby. I think these 2 rotten little monsters are going to have lots of fun together. M thinks she is ready to barrel race but she doesn't realize that rotten old ponies can still run 16 second patterns, not happening lol.

Her other horse (she's pretty well claimed & taken over MY Hano) Missy Moo, is the tallest on the place. So she will be hauling the big & the little - 13.2 & 16.2

YAY!!! Great thread!
She is lookin great! That is going to be hilarious unloading both of them at a show! NO BARREL RACING YET KID! I know she's been raised on them, but how on earth did you get her so assertive? E is struggling, still on the lead line. I know I was going for soft hands, but not to this extreme, going for lessons in the spring. I think some of us were born with it, others have to be taught, but only if she wants it!

Only 42 lbs! She is tiny! I was stressing about E making it to 60 lbs, but she's 4 ft. tallish, 8 in March... E's nothing but skin and bones! So not my child.
I'll post some later!

M is just at 4 ft (she was so excited about that because she got to ride the roller coasters at Universal lol) but is a skinny butt, she definitely doesn't get that from me! She has to have 7/8 pants for the length but is so little around that they have to be super skinnys and have adjustable waists, it's frustrating. She's a little muscle, she plays several sports (soccer, swim team & gymnastics) and rides, I wish I had 6 pack abs like she does.

There was no getting her to be assertive. It's a chore to keep her bravery contained. She's been that way since she started walking at 9 months old. The wanting to run barrels is the least of it, she also thinks she needs to be jumping Missy. Nope, no way, not happening.

Don't worry yet. At their age, they are usually one extreme or the other. I always tell parents at first lessons that most kids cry the first time they get on a horse, depending on the kid it's either when you put them on or when you take them off. You might try finding things to make it fun & give her a goal at the same time. If she is comfortable on the lunge line (and with a horse that is cool with some odd things), play the "mummy game" - give her a roll of tp, you hold the end, her challenge is to make nice circles around you and wrap you up.

Love riding with the kids! Here's a few of tootsie just playing. She's 8 this year and has 2 seasons of barrel racing (and other contesting) under her belt. There's something special about riding with kids and seeing them grow and hone their skills.

Yay, Kids on horses. I snapped a few shots of my mini me before she quickly outgrew the love of horses. Sad Face. Most of them are on my phone, but heres two i found on the computer.

Too cute and how perfect that her trophy matches her shirt! Bummer she outgrew the horse phase. Maybe she'll catch the bug again later in life :D

Yeah, I'm not sure at what age to tell her she really didn't win that trophy, we had it made for her and gave it to her after her class...ooopps

Oh that is being such a good mom!!! HUGE brownie points for you!

Here is E at 5 on her first pony Rosie. Poor Rosie, she should have been PERFECT, but I was duped. She was drugged when I went to look at her and when she got here. COPD, and just before she was delivered she was kicked by the owners boss mare and went blind in one eye a few months after we had her. She was wonderful otherwise. Found her a great retirement home with an identical retired kids pony, she is livin the pampered life now!

And then we got her Cowboy. Dead broke, lover, should have been born a fish. Can't keep this horse out of the pond! I ride him the most, he is an incredible trail horse! Part Arab, part ?.

Here is my little girl riding her Stubbs. Jaydyn had never really rode a horse before and she instantly fell with in love with Stubby. She did all the training herself and she is completely deaf.
