4 new ponies... what breed does this little guy look?
Not long ago we went to a local horse trader to pick up a pony or 2 for my pony training project & came back with too many instead. Being a small but experienced girl, I have just decided that with all the nice unbroke & unwanted ponies out there that someone needed to be doing something with them.
Anyway, I think I have 3 of the ponies figured out but this colt has me really stumped.
He has some pretty flashy movement, but it may of just been the excitement of a new place. No idea but he's cute & we like him a lot. :)
Anyone else have any ideas..?
Edited to add he is around 46 inches tall
looks like a shetland/mini x fjord to me... defiantly has fjord in him IMO. Love the idea of repurposing the unwanted ponies! I wish you good luck and a safe journey with them all.
maybe a welsh cross
he is cute though
Thank you. I wondered about fjord cross, but as far as I knew the registry didn't allow that.. which I suppose could be why he has no papers. I think he might be too big for mini blood, but maybe shetland or welsh. I guess he might just be a really cute mutt. :p
You're for sure that he's a pony, and not just young? I see a little arab in him, so possibly an arab x welsh?
There always seem to be a shortage of good and well trained ponies, so I'm glad you are going to fill that need.
You little fellow, looks almost exactly like those Hensons ponies, described elsewhere on this forum. Good luck with him and keep us posted on your projects.
Arab x Welsh... my younger brother had one, looked quite a lot like your guy!
Good luck with training, a friend of mine does something similar and buys ponies and flips them for a profit (If she doesn't get too attached to them lol!)
Oops. I guess I forgot to mention that he is a yearling/coming 2 year old at the most. Definitely not old enough for me to be riding, but he'll be learning some halter/showmanship & ground driving. He's probably about 46 inches tall.
I'd still guess he will mature pony sized, but that definitely doesn't rule out arab.
He just doesn't have the face & overall build for me to guess Arab cross.
All my ponies I get will end up for sale, but I'm not interested in a big profit. Just want good homes for them in the end & a little bit of money to help with picking up others & putting away some for show season. :)
I'm thinking fjord cross as well. Is he 46 at the wither or at the butt? I would think that he'll probably make it to at least 12.2hh or so, which is just about the right size to be of that type. We have a member on here who has a full fjord filly (almost 3) that is about that size. His coloring and two-tone hair is hinting at fjord too, IMO.
I think he's very cute and has the makings of a very classy pony after having some time to grow and getting cleaned up a bit.
Too bad you're so far away, we're actually in need of a pony in the next few years to take place of our 16 year old pony mare (getting artheritic early on, unfortunately) and theres just no one that trains and finishes them correctly around here >.>
46 in. is a guess. I should probably measure him tomorrow to be sure.
I really need to come up with a name for these ponies so I can stop calling them "him" or by their colors. Ugh.
