Buying Western tack?
Hey y'all! I was wonder about buying western tack.I have JUST a saddle.Nothing else.I traded it with my cousin for my older jumping saddle. So i have no clue what to buy or how much it is gonna cost me.I can't spend much on it as I broke my arm and am pay for two horses.Any how i broke my arm was i got my stirrup stuck on a hing of a gate my TB frecked and i came off.It screwed up my saddle and now i have no saddle.I have had my western saddle for a while and planed on getting the stuff when i got the money. My mom offer to ride my horses a few time for me so i thought i might as well get it over with and buy it.I asked my cousin what to buy and she said "i think it's call a girth strap or something.....i don't know"lol she is a bit younger than me so its no biggy. But i have rode in a hunter-jumper or dressage saddle all my life so i know them like the back of my hand.I have rode in a wester saddle more than a couple of time but know nothing about them.I would really appreciate it!
Well, can you share a picture of your western saddle so that we'll know what you already have?
Regardless, the absolute bare minimum you'll need to have on your saddle will be the front cinch, latigo, and off billet. The latigo is a long piece of leather or nylon strapping that you wrap between the cinch and the D-rings on the saddle. The off-billet is basically the same thing except you use it on the off side of the cinch. As for cinches, there are about a million options.
But, you may already have these things on your saddle. That's why I ask for the picture.
Agreed, and a western pad or blanket.
